About the Day

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is celebrated every year to mark the contribution of the Overseas Indian community in the development of India. It serves as a significant platform for the diaspora to engage with their roots and contribute to the nation's growth.

"January 9 was chosen because it was on this day in 1915 that Mahatma Gandhi, the greatest 'Pravasi', returned to India from South Africa, eventually leading the nation to independence."
